Meret Lüthi/Les Passions de l'Âme - Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber: The Mystery Sonatas (played on a historic violin by Jacobus Stainer) 2CD

After many years of turning to the instrumental ensemble music of Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber, the early music ensemble “Les Passions de l’Âme” from the Swiss capital Bern now turned its attention to his most famous opus – the 15 “Rosary Sonatas”. Each of the 15 sonatas requires a differently tuned violin. The orchestra’s artistic director, Meret Lüthi, and her long-standing continuo team dedicated themselves to the demanding task of interpreting the complete opus magnum in a marathon of three concerts. Afterwards, they went into the studio and, in co-production with Bayern 4 Klassik, recorded all the sonatas for a double album, which is now published in a splendid edition with many illustrations and informative texts about the work.
