The synagogoue was my idea, mainly because this place hosts a lot of interesting cultural events lately. What is more interesing is that this huge and empty space lacks the usual church-like echo – he adds.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e- It turned out that Jacek Mazurkiewicz has all the equipment needed to record this album outside of the studio. It doesn't mean that we gave up on an idea of studio recordings but together with Jachna we tried to use different spaces for our albums – be they old libraries, dusty attics or even an airdock – says drummer Jacek Buhl. - Whatever you were thinking about the Bydgoszcz-Fordon synagogue, there are almost no relics of past times, since it's either been robbed or destroyed. But one thing remains intact: an amazing atmosphere of this place and beatiful acoustics..\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe recording session was no less a spontaneous meeting. - The coolest thing about it is that we could feel our spirits rekindle. We instantly caught a specific kind of a feeling. Jacek (Mazurkiewicz) also uses electronics in his playing. That's one of the reasons wy he managed to melt into our duo with Jachna. We spent a lot of time together, played numerous concerts, we even started rehearsing which is a breakthrough, if you ask me\", says Jachna. \"We normally meet before concerts and recording sessions and we still enjoy spending our time together. That's the most important aspect of Innercity Ensemble. It affects not only humans but also plants and animals. Technological growth is currently overwhelming and so are its effects. My guess is that we are heading for a catastrophe. Of course, if we are discussing electro-acoustic music, we need to stress that its roots are also stuck in technology but I prefer analogue devices, at least in terms of generating sounds or modulating those recorded via microphones\", explains Iwański.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\"I don't use laptops and I don't intend to do so. The band will play in Germany, Ukraine and Poland. \"My Indian bandmates love performing in my homeland. They have always been welcomed enthusiastically here. Funny stories aside, we would like to draw some attention to a dying breed of Orangutans and lab-imprisoned chimpanzees from New York Blood Center, abandoned on an island near Liberia's coast (one of them is pictured on our album cover). 'Primate punk' and 'chimpanzee violence' are just jokes on genre labels. If you need to attach one to Guiding Lights, we would suggest 'normcore' and 'garage folk'. Deprived of distortions we sound much alike 90's anti-folk bands and it seems that each and every song we perform is an excercise in rewriting 'Dear Catastrophe Waitress'.\"\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs mentioned before, most songs and melodies had been composed before the band even took form but it was during the rehearsals that Asia's and Piotrek's input made them sound the way it was originally intended: loud and fast. \"We rehearsed frequently and after only four months we were ready to enter the studio. We met when Bączyk's synth broke down just before he was supposed to enter the studio with Robotobibok and he was looking for a replacement. I agreed to lend him mine,\" recalls Polak. \"But it was only two years ago when we started improvising together,\" adds Bączyk. \"Both of us own EMS synths and these are not that common. We didn't set ourselves any goals, the band started by assuming two EMS's are better than one. We plugged them in and the result will soon land in your hands in the form of 'Krautpark' album,\" recalls Polak.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\"EMS synths have an unique system of connections between counterparts - you can do that by inserting a pin that allows for connections. As well, EMS constructors managed to assemble a perfect set of parts that resulted in a wonderful sound. Thanks to all of this, the Synthi resembles a complete musical instrument, much like a cello\", explains Polak. \"I personally enjoy Synthi AKS mainly due to the fact that I'm not what you would call a keyboard player,\" adds Bączyk. \"I'm not that interested in being innovative just for the sake of innovation,\" he says.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePin Park's album is named after one of the tracks that recalls the golden age of German electronic music. \"This one seemed pretty obvious although you need to know that our aim is not to create a genre-oriented music. We just turn the knobs and hope for the right energy to arrive. Once everything is in its place, we start recording. But it needs to be mentioned that I feel some kind of affinity for bands such as Cluster, Harmonia and Kraftwerk. I really like the approach Roedelius and Moebius had - living up to the idea of Joseph Beuys \"Every man an artist\". They chose their tools (instruments) and recorded a couple of amazing albums. Their music is really intuitive and void of any false additions. It's just free improvising and pure, surreal psychedelia,\" explains Bączyk.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\"Krautpark\" is a largely improvised album. Mostly, due to the fact that Bączyk and Polak need around 15-20 minutes of playing before learning if the direction they're taking is the right one. \"If it is, we quickly agree on who will be taking the lead role, we turn the volume down and start recording. We write, as a band, compositions that take us somewhere and hopefully the listener as well. Each song is like a mansion, with different rooms that represent different emotions. We can build the mansion as big or small as we want. There's no literal meaning, it's a piece of music when it moves you. We all listen to different music, but there are some commonalities. Heavy jazz influence that's easy to pick up on and also the blues. The layout is more akin to the way soundtracks are laid out with dynamics and long dissolving atmospherics,\" said the band.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe album comes out after a rough period for Mako Sica. \"The songs came together pretty quick. We wrote them with our longtime drummer Mike Kendrick before and during a tour in 2013, then in January of the following year he told us he was moving and quit the band. We tried another drummer before Chaetan Newell came along. We intend to play mainly with the narrative and not only with color, hence the reduction of percussion, introduction of a human voice and a big departure from a crystal clear sound.
